Dubai: A group of 100 determined children from South India’s Kerala state will perform magic, dance, music and more for UAE residents at a show virtual this Friday April 9.
The children of determination breaking down barriers amid the COVID-19 pandemic are the students of acclaimed Indian magician and motivational speaker Gopinath Muthukad.
They are studying at the Different Art Center (DAC) set up in 2019 by Muthukad in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.
DAC kids used to have the opportunity to perform various art forms in front of audiences, Muthukad told Gulf News by phone.
“The applause and appreciation they used to receive from people greatly contributed to their intellectual and emotional growth. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a drop in the number of visitors and live performances. Therefore, the shows were directed to the Thiruvananthapuram site and broadcast via online platforms to audiences all over the world, ”he said.
After staging their performances for audiences in the US and Singapore, the talented kids are now ready to perform for audiences in the UAE and other GCC countries.
The show titled Vismaya Saanthwanam (The Magic of Benevolence) – a helping hand for children with disabilities – is organized under the auspices of the Dubai Cochin Empire Lions Club.
Muthukad, who also holds “Celebrity UNICEF Supporter” status, will lead the special artists to join the UN agency’s efforts to improve the conditions and status of children in the state.
He said the event for the UAE public falling in April, Autism Awareness Month, aims to raise awareness of the challenges these children and their families face and the need to integrate them into mainstream society. .
Children with mental and physical developmental disabilities face similar challenges around the world and it is the responsibility of citizens around the world to help them integrate into mainstream society by supporting them, Muthukad said. .
“We are here to support them by training them in different art forms and possibly helping them earn a living from their talents and skills.”
Muthukad’s academy of magic, Magic Planet, already runs a program called MPower through which 23 children with disabilities have been trained and they are now salaried employees of the academy.
The mothers of dozens of determined children also earn a living through another program designed especially for them. They are part of the Karishma Society through which they were given sewing machines to sew dresses and provide for their families.
Its next project, a “Universal Magic Center” which focuses on the employability of children with disabilities, is underway at the premises of the Magic Planet.
With a focus on their overall development, UMC is designed to become a complete entertainment arena carried out and managed by people with disabilities.
“We expect the best possible support from our audience in UAE and other Gulf countries for our students. Once they see the performances of these children, they will realize what art can do to change the lives of these children.
He said that a scientific study carried out on these children since they started training in various activities showed significant improvement in their cognitive abilities, self-esteem and general well-being.
“We welcome these children from there [the UAE] also to visit us and spend time here. We will be more than happy to provide a platform for them to perform as well, ”Muthukad said.
Those who wish to watch the program and support determined artists can register their details on the Different Art Center website.
Registration is free for the event which takes place virtually from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The program will showcase a combination of the talents and creative skills of CAD students in the fields of music, dance, musical instruments, painting, etc.
Different magic sessions titled Magic of Darkness, Magic of Silence and Magic of Miracle will be performed by students who have challenges in their visual, auditory and movement abilities.
Malayalam superstars Mohanlal, Mammootty, Manju Warrier and famous singer KS Chithra are some of the celebrities who have endorsed the talents of these children.
DAC has posted videos in which these celebrities and others urge their audiences to watch and support the programs of these champions with different abilities.
