136 Missing after the Uttarakhand disaster to be declared dead: officials
136 people missing since a glacier erupted in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district earlier this month triggered an avalanche and flash floods will be declared dead, officials said.
The glacier erupted in the high Himalayas which caused an avalanche and deluge in the Dhauliganga-Alakananda river system swept away a hydroelectric power station and five bridges, in addition to seriously damaging another power project.
A multi-agency follow-up and rescue effort, involving the state and national disaster response teams, armed forces, paramilitaries and police, was launched after the district was hit by the tragedy .
Families have been called in to test the TBEN samples of all those who have gone missing.
