On February 3, Hollywood actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P Henson announced the film and television nominations for the 72nd annual Golden Globes, voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the kickoff of this extremely unorthodox awards season.

Streamer Netflix dominated in both categories, with 22 movies and 20 on TV.

In the film, Mank led the way with six nominations, while The Trial of the Chicago 7 won five nods, and The Father, Nomadland and Promising Young Woman all won four. On television, The Crown has won six Royal nominations, with Schitt’s Creek in five, and Ozark and The Undoing in four.

There’s plenty of British interest this year, including Vanessa Kirby nominated for Pieces of a Woman, Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman for The Father, Carey Mulligan and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, Riz Ahmed for Sound of Metal, Gary Oldman for Mank, Jodie Comer for Killing Eve, Dev Patel for The Personal History of David Copperfield, Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black Messiah, and several British nods for The Crown. Surprisingly enough, James Corden also starred for his split performance The Prom.
