AUTO INSURANCE RATING METHODOLOGY
TBEN auto insurance ratings recognize businesses for their customer-centric features and practices. Ratings are based on weighted averages of scores across several categories including financial strength, consumer complaints, website transparency, and accessibility. Using our editorial discretion, we also consider customer satisfaction surveys. These ratings are a guide, but we encourage you to shop around and compare multiple insurance quotes to find the best rate for you. TBEN does not receive any compensation for reviews. Read our editorial guidelines.
METHODOLOGY: COMPLAINTS FROM INSURERS
TBEN reviewed complaints received by state insurance regulators and reported to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2016-2018. To gauge how insurers stack up against each other, the NAIC annually calculates a complaints index for each subsidiary, measuring its share of total complaints relative to its size, or the share of total premiums in the industry. To assess a company’s complaint history, TBEN calculated a similar index for each insurer, weighted by each subsidiary’s market share, over the three-year period. The ratios are determined separately for auto, home (including renters and condominiums) and life insurance.
