41,383 new cases of Covid in India, slightly lower than yesterday

New Delhi:
India added 41,383 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours while deaths from COVID-19 increased by 507. The country’s total number of cases now stands at 3.12 crore, while the total number of deaths is 4.18 lakh, according to the health ministry.

Here are the top 10 updates on the coronavirus:

  1. India’s test positivity rate (positive cases identified per 100 tests) continues to decline. For the 31st day in a row, it is below the 5 percent mark at 2.12 percent.

  2. About 2,224 active cases have been reported in the past 24 hours to bring the tally to 4.09 lakh. So far, around 3.04 crore people have recovered nationwide, bringing the recovery rate to 97.35%. Recoveries outnumber new cases daily for the 43rd day in a row now.

  3. More than 20 doses of lakh vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours. Total doses administered in the country have exceeded 41.76 crore so far, the health ministry said.

  4. Kerala has contributed 17,481 cases to the country’s daily figures. It was followed by Maharashtra (8,159 cases).

  5. Delhi has recorded 62 cases of the coronavirus with a positivity rate of 0.09% and four deaths, according to a health bulletin released on Wednesday. Sixty-one patients have recovered from the infection in the past 24 hours, the statement said.

  6. For the first time, three different variants of COVID-19 – Delta, Alpha and Beta – have been detected among 75 cases of the coronavirus in Mizoram, health officials said. The samples were sent for genome sequencing to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani, West Bengal in June of this year.

  7. India has recorded more than 45,000 cases of the deadly “black fungus” in the past two months. Deputy Health Minister Bharati Pravin Pawar told parliament on Tuesday that more than 4,200 people had died from the fungus – the scientific name mucormycosis.

  8. The government aims to vaccinate all adults by the end of this year. So far, four vaccines – Russia’s Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik V and Moderna – have been cleared for use in the country.

  9. India is among five member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that will produce three-quarters of the total global COVID-19 vaccine production this year, a senior official at the global body said. “Production remains very centralized – around 75 percent of this year’s vaccines appear to come from five WTO members – China, India, Germany, the United States and France,” the United States said on Wednesday. WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

  10. In the United States, the country most affected by the pandemic, average life expectancy has dropped by 1.5 years in 2020, according to a report from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Life expectancy at birth for the total United States population was 77.3 years, down from 78.8 years in 2019, and the lowest since 2003, according to the report.
