90 IIT Roorkee students tested positive for COVID-19, 5 hostels sealed


90 students have tested positive for COVID-19 at IIT Roorkee in recent days.

Roorkee (Uttarakhand):

A total of 90 students have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Roorkee in the past few days, Sonika Srivastava, head of IIT Roorkee’s media cell, said on Thursday.

Sonika Srivastava added that the Haridwar District Health Department sealed off five hostels – Coral, Kasturba, Sarojini, Govind Bhawan and Vigyan Kunj – and declared them containment areas.

“The institute has around three thousand students, of which around 1,200 students live in these five hostels. Currently all students are treated in hostels. The students who were about to come to the IIT, were arrested until the next orders. All students present at the scene were urged to take precautions, ”said Sonika Srivastava.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand reported 787 new COVID-19 positive cases on Thursday, bringing the cumulative tally to 1.05,498.
