Abu Dhabi: A total of 12,000 toll exemption requests have been granted to eligible motorists by the Abu Dhabi public transport regulator.
In a statement on social media, the Department of Municipalities and Integrated Transportation Center of Transportation said a total of 400,000 accounts have been registered to date on the Darb toll system. The system began charging motorists on January 2, with a Dh4 toll collected for each passage under gates during rush hour.
Abu Dhabi police have also warned motorists not to stop on the side of the road or on a hard shoulder when approaching Darb tolls.
Stopping in this manner could lead to accidents and confuse motorists, police say. Motorists who do not respect the highway code will be liable to penalties.
