Adani Group takes over the operation of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the first of Kerala’s four airports.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Adani Group has taken over the operation, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, claiming that it is now a gateway to kindness.

Announcing the official takeover of the airport, the business giant said in a tweet that it has the privilege of serving and welcoming passengers to the land of God.

“By connecting lives with cherished travel experiences, we are happy to share that #ThiruvananthapuramAirport is now a #GatewayToGoodness. We have the privilege of serving and welcoming passengers to God’s own land filled with lush greenery, beautiful beaches and exquisite cuisine, ”the group said in the tweet, both in English and Malayalam, after midnight on Thursday.

The group resumed airport operations despite protests from the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF against its handover to private actors.

Last year, the Kerala Assembly unanimously passed a resolution protesting the privatization of the airport.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had criticized the takeover of the airport by the Adani group, saying it was not for the development of the facility but to protect the interests of the monopolies.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the first of the state’s four airports. Founded in 1932, the airport was owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India.
