Cape Town – The home of a suspected child rapist has been demolished by angry community members.

The dance teacher was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The house belonging to the 38-year-old father of three in Lotus, Gugulethu, was destroyed Tuesday morning by locals, who also chased his wife and children from the area.

The president of the street committee Thembinkosi Bula says she was alerted by the parents of the 12-year-old girl, who said they saw “disturbing messages” between the teacher and the child on her mobile phone.

“In the posts, they were talking about sex and when they were going to have it,” he says.

“He was asking for nude photos, but didn’t receive them. The girl admitted to having been raped by this man.

“After the parents saw the messages, they contacted us for help, but since we don’t deal with rape cases, we asked for the police to intervene.

“But it seems people weren’t happy and decided to demolish his house after the arrest,” Bula says.

Bula says the dance teacher also owns a second hut in a nearby informal neighborhood which was recently erected and which was also demolished by the community.

It is not known where her family went after the shacks were destroyed.

Only the electrical box remained upright when the Daily voice visited the Lotus Hut.

Bula says the man has been teaching children dance for more than six years at his home.
