Newcastle United’s quest to become one of the Premier League’s big hitters was aided after an Arsenal legend told them he could see them signing PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

The brilliant French striker remains in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain after a summer filled with speculation. With the end of his contract, the 22-year-old looked likely to leave the Parc des Princes. Indeed, he even admitted that Real Madrid would have been his destination of choice.

However, despite a huge bid for his services, PSG rejected Real’s approach and Mbappe ultimately stayed.

“If I had left this summer it would only have been to join Real Madrid,” Mbappe said in an interview with RMC in October.

“PSG decided not to sell me and I agreed with that decision.

“I continued to play in August and had no problem with that, I still play for a great team in a place where I was and I’m still happy.

“Why did I want to go? I thought my adventure there was over, I wanted to discover something new.

Speculation continues to swirl over his future, however, with Los Blancos likely to try to sign him for free next summer.

This is despite the reports claiming he is not convinced by recently appointed Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti.

As such, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit believes he can easily see Mbappe sign for Newcastle.

Thanks to their stupidly rich new Saudi landlords, Newcastle now has the means to recruit the biggest stars in the world.

And in the quotes carried by The sun, Petit revealed why he could see the deal come to fruition.

The future of Kylian Mbappé undecided

“Anything can happen. We see what happens with Newcastle United – there have been rumors and you never know what will happen at the end of the day. Things can turn out very easily and very quickly.

“There is a big connection with Real Madrid and I know in his mind, when he was a kid, he dreamed of playing for clubs like this, because of the stars they have there and the club history.

“I think he has been frustrated and tired with the situation at PSG over the past year. We have seen problems on the pitch between players from Paris Saint-Germain and the national team, which reflected his game and his mood.

“Maybe he’s interested in Real Madrid because he’s sick of what’s going on here in France.

“I think sometimes he feels like he doesn’t have the same recognition as players like [Lionel] Messi or Neymar.

“Messi, before coming here, he was the king of Barcelona. But for me, the king of Paris Saint-Germain is Mbappé, not Messi or Neymar.

“With all due respect for Messi, Mbappe is still number one.”

Kylian Mbappe talks little about Pochettino

Indeed, PSG will probably find themselves without the services of Mbappe and manager Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

Mbappe was also recently asked about Pochettino’s style of play – and the PSG superstar hasn’t exactly received his boss’s approval.

“I think we have some good quality times where we’ve shown how good we are,” he said.

“I will say though that it was not enough with the team we have, but we try to improve every day. We are improving.

“I respect people’s opinions. Everyone has the right to an opinion. People think we are playing badly.

“Personally, I don’t think we are playing well at the moment, but we are winning.

“I think we’re going to keep working because we have a hard-working group.”

But Mbappe refused to give pressured coach Mauricio Pochettino a vote of confidence.

“I’m not the person who should be talking about it and whether there is time or not,” Mbappe said.

“It’s the president, Leonardo and the directors who have to say it.”
