Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta called Nicolas Pepe’s conduct “unacceptable” after being sent off in their 0-0 draw with Leeds United on Sunday.
Pepe only got his second Premier League start but failed to take the chance.
The Ivorian international head butted Ezgjan Alioski, leaving referee Antony Taylor no chance but to show him a red card following a VAR exam.
Speaking after the game, Arteta said: “Considering the date we sent Pepe out, we have to take him. I never like a draw but under the circumstances it’s a point. It is unacceptable.
“The first half, there were two different periods. The game broke a bit, we started to give the ball away and we gave them space to break. In the second half, it was about defending well, remaining patient and using the rhythm of our players in the space they were leaving.
