Aston Villa are in talks with the Premier League over the possible postponement of Sunday’s Premier League home game against Everton due to their ongoing issues with the coronavirus.
The club closed their training ground last week after nine players and five staff tested positive for Covid-19, forcing their youth team to play in the FA Cup third round match against Liverpool.
Villa was due to play at Tottenham on Wednesday but that had to be postponed as the training ground still has not reopened.
Fearing that this situation could continue over the weekend, the PA news agency understands that the club have started talks regarding the potential postponement of Everton’s game, which has already been postponed for 24 hours in the hope that that would leave more time to complete the match.
Having had to miss their slot midweek this week, Villa already have two games behind the majority of their top-level rivals and having to fit into a revamped third game will push the already stretched schedule further.
