Australian opener Will Pucovski failed a fitness test on Thursday and was excluded from the fourth litmus test against India, with Marcus Harris in his place. The 22-year-old, who made his debut in the third draw in Sydney, with an impressive 62 in the opening innings, dislocated his shoulder in the match. “Will Pucovski will not play tomorrow,” said Australia captain Tim Paine.
“He tried to practice this morning and hasn’t quite come, so he’ll have a bit of work to do with our medicos, I guess, to see where he goes from here.”
“He’s missing this test game and Marcus Harris will replace him.”
Paine added that barring late accidents this would likely be the only change to the squad that played the tense test in Sydney, leaving the four-game streak locked at 1-1 towards Brisbane.
Harris, who made his debut against India in Adelaide two years ago, has appeared in nine tests but has not been shown since Australia retained the Ashes in England last year.
“He’s going to come in and open the stick and he can’t wait to see what he can do,” Paine said. “He’s a very good player.”
Australia (probable): David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Cameron Green, Tim Paine (capt), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
