Total national passenger car and two-wheeler sales increased 13.59% and 7.42%, respectively, in December 2020 compared to December 2019, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) of December 2020.
In December 2020, total domestic sales of passenger vehicles reached 2.52998 units, which is 13.59% more than the 2.22,728 units sold in December 2019.
Total production of passenger vehicles rose 24.17% to 3.15,838 units in December 2020, from 2.54,359 units the previous year. But their total exports fell 13.49% to 57,050 units in the month under review, from 65,949 units in December 2019.
In December 2020, total domestic sales of two-wheelers totaled 11.27,917 units, 7.42% more than 10,50,038 units sold a year ago.
Total production of two-wheelers jumped 9.08% to 15.29,242 units in December 2020, from 14.01,932 units in December 2019. In addition, there was a 23.62% increase in total export of two-wheelers to 3.67.521 units in December 2020 against 2.97.304 units the previous year.
Three-wheelers saw a massive drop of 58.87% to 22,126 units in December 2020, down from 53,795 units a year ago.
