One of the big stories to emerge from Saturday’s WWE SummerSlam was the new faction of IYO Sky (Io Shirai), Bayley and Dakota Kai as all three stars returned after the opening match in which Bianca Belair successfully won the Raw Women’s Title took over. Becky Lynch.
Fightful Select reports that this faction was formed well before the release of Dakota in April. Vince McMahon, who was still in charge of creative, rejected the idea.
Other pitched versions of the faction included Raquel Rodriguez and Kay Lee Ray. When McMahon rejected the idea, Raquel was called up to the main roster and put on SmackDown, Kay Lee was renamed Alba Fyre and remained in NXT.
After Io was injured at NXT Stand and Deliver in April, she was sidelined for several months. Before SummerSlam, it was reported that she was medically cleared, but it was believed she would be leaving WWE as her contract was due to expire next month. There was speculation that she would stay with the company if she landed a main contract, and that’s what happened.

Many in WWE believed that Triple H made it a priority to bring back Kai who was once in charge of talent relations, and although she had conversations with AEW, they never picked up on much after an introduction.
