BCCI Ethics Officer asks Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani to respond to conflict of interest allegations

On Friday, BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran asked Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani to respond in writing by September 2 to allegations of conflict of interest leveled against her.

Former Supreme Court Justice Saran, who took over the position of BCCI ethics and ombudsman from DK Jain, served Ambani with notice after receiving a complaint from former MPCA member Sanjeev Gupta.

Gupta claimed that the Mumbai Indian owner has a conflict of interest as she is also a director at Reliance Industries, which recently purchased digital IPL rights for Rs 23,758 crore through subsidiary Viacom 18.

Mumbai Indians Didn’t Have The Best Seasons This Year

It is alleged that the RIL website states that Viacom 18 is a subsidiary of RIL,Gupta wrote in his complaint.

“You are hereby notified that a complaint has been received by the Ethics Officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India under Rule 39(b) of the BCCI Rules and Regulations, regarding certain acts alleged to be a “conflict of interest” form on your part. You are requested to submit your written response to the accompanying complaint on or before 2-9-2022″, read the letter further.

As for the IPL, MI had their worst season ever this year when they finished in the bottom half of the rankings. They never got going in the first half of the season and lost all their 8 games. They hope to get things back on track for next season.

As for the broadcasting rights, Star India had retained the TV rights after an intense battle between Disney and Sony. Sony had TV rights for the first 10 years of the tournament.
