A taxi driver, who allegedly raped a female passenger in the vehicle between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., was arrested Wednesday morning, police said.
The complainant, who is owned by Jharkhand, had booked the HSR Layout taxi in Murugesh Palya. Police say the woman alleged the driver locked the car door on arriving at her destination and raped her before pushing her out of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the driver, who is from Andhra Pradesh, denied the charge, police said. The accused and the woman were subjected to a medical examination.
According to an article in a major daily, Additional Police Commissioner (East) S Murugan said a case of rape under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code had been registered by the police. “We responded quickly to the complaint and arrested the accused. He is originally from Andhra Pradesh. We are questioning him in depth, ”he said.
