BJP accuses Congress of ‘appeasement’ after party MLA says ‘only Muslims can save party’

New Delhi: The BJP accused the congress of appeasement with minorities on Sunday after a video of the great old party MLA Chandanji Thakor saying that only “Muslims can save the party” surfaced on social media.

BJP leader Amit Malviya called the Congress the new Muslim League and tweeted: “Chandanji Thakor, Congress candidate in the Gujarat election, says only Muslim society can save this country, and if anyone can save the Congress party, it can only be a Muslim. party… On the one hand, Rahul Gandhi pretends to go to the temple during elections, on the other hand, his party has become the new Muslim League.”

Congress candidate Thakor from Sidhpur, who addressed a rally in a Gujarat poll, says in the viral clip, “We gave the votes (to the BJP) to do something new, but they pushed the entire country to the depths, and if anyone can save the country, it is the Muslim community, and if anyone can save the Congress, only Muslims can.”

“Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi took to the streets over NRC issue. There were 18 kinds of parties, but none favored Muslims. This is the only party that protects you nationwide. This BJP disturbed you in some places. This BJP raised the triple talaq issue and abolished it. The hajj subsidy is also being taken away by the BJP,” he added.

Commenting on the clip, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the words used by the Congress MLA were embarrassing.

Patel took to Twitter and said: “Embarrassing words! Fearing defeat, Congress again resorts to appeasement with minorities. But Congress must know that no one can save the Congress Party from defeat!”
