India reported 1.26 lakh coronavirus cases on Thursday – its highest figure on record in a single day.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday discussed the alarming growth in coronavirus infections across the country with chief ministers, listing measures he said must be taken on “war footing.”

He stressed the need for micro-containment zones and extensive testing as a way to tackle the second wave of coronavirus, which has pushed the daily outbreak numbers up to 1.26 lakh in 24 hours. State governments, he said, should not cut corners in this matter.

PM Modi also called on key ministers from all states and territories in the Union to organize a “Tika Utsav” or vaccine festival to vaccinate as many people as possible against the coronavirus. “Can we celebrate Tika Utsav from April 11-14? Meanwhile, we should vaccinate as many eligible people as possible and aim for zero vaccine wastage,” he said.

India reported 1.26 lakh coronavirus cases on Thursday – its highest figure on record in a single day. The country’s COVID-19 cases have increased 13-fold in just two months.
