British motorcyclist crashes on Japan circuit, falls into a coma: police


British motorcycle racer Gino Rea crashed during practice on Saturday for a race at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, was seriously injured and slipped into a coma, local police said.

Rea’s motorcycle slammed into the wall of a track at the track in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, and he was taken to a hospital by an ambulance helicopter, police said.

Spectators and race personnel were not injured, they said.

The 32-year-old FCC TSR Honda France motorcyclist was set to compete in an eight-hour endurance race at the track from Thursday through Sunday.
