Bryan Kohberger appears in court in Idaho for the first time

The search warrant that was executed at the home of murder suspect Bryan Kohberger in Idaho turned up less evidence than expected, according to an expert.

Court documents unsealed last week showed that 15 items were recovered from Mr. Kohberger’s home during a search the same day he was arrested in Pennsylvania on charges of the Nov. 13 stabbing of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in Moscow, Idaho.

Speak against TBEN of the significance of the seizures — including hair, receipts, a computer tower, a disposable glove, and items with peculiar stains, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer said, “I expected so much more information.”

Official details about the evidence are not expected to come out anytime soon after the court issued a gag order prohibiting law enforcement officials from disclosing information about the killings and the arrest.

Meanwhile, speculation about Mr Kohberger’s possible links to the victims continues to circulate – including a rumor that he frequented the restaurant where Mogen and Kernodle worked in the weeks before the murders.

That rumor was promptly suppressed by the owner of the Mad Greek restaurant.

‘Reddish/brown colored’ cushion found in Bryan Kohberger’s home and its possible meaning

In the search warrant for Bryan Kohberger’s apartment, investigators list several items with stains, including pieces of a mattress cover, a “reddish/brown” stain on an uncovered pillow, and a “collection of dark red stains.”

TBEN spoke with two experts — Dr. Monte Miller, a former crime scene investigator and forensic expert for the Texas Department of Public Safety; and former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer – for their take on items found in the apartment.

“A reddish or brown spot is a euphemism for, ‘We found something that looks like blood,'” Dr. Miller said. “It could be blood from the victims, maybe his blood. They won’t know until they test it, but they can get TBEN if it’s blood. We don’t know what the stains in the wrappers look like, but they’re looking again for any kind of TBEN, evidence that might have come from the crime scene.’

Ms Coffindaffer added: “They don’t call it blood, but it is certainly inferred that it was blood.”

Dr. Miller noted that while stains on clothes and bedding aren’t necessarily uncommon, investigators will try to link the evidence found in the Pullman apartment to the Moscow crime scene.

“The likelihood of one of those stains coming from the crime scene will depend on how well it cleaned up,” he said.

Kaylee Goncalves had already moved out of the killer’s house

Idaho murder victim Kaylee Goncalves had already moved out of the home where she and three other students were brutally murdered, but tragically returned to Moscow to visit her best friend that fateful weekend.

Then, on the weekend of November 12, she decided to head back to college town to visit her best friend Madison Mogen.

The two young women had been inseparable since they’d met in sixth grade, and Goncalves wanted to show Mogen her new Range Rover that she’d saved up and bought for.

The couple also planned to go to a party together on the night of Saturday, November 12.

“These girls were best friends since sixth grade, like inseparable,” said Goncalves’ mother Kristi Goncalves.

“That was the last time I saw Kaylee.”

In the early hours of November 13, Goncalves, Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were all stabbed to death in the three-story home.

Why Did Investigators Seize Bryan Kohberger’s Computer Tower and Fire TV Stick?

A piece of evidence found in the apartment during the search was unsealed on Wednesday, revealing the seizure of 15 items, including hair, receipts, a computer tower, a disposable glove and items with strange stains.

In addition to physical evidence, investigators would be able to examine Mr. Kohberger’s behavior, including computer searches, articles he read and television he watched in the weeks leading up to and in the aftermath of the murders.

“Maybe they’re looking at what he saw. Did he watch the news? Did he see anything related to the murders? Did he watch programs about [crime]?” Dr. Monte Miller, former crime scene detective and forensic expert for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told TBEN.

“Part of that could fit with his doctorate, or could be explainable to him. [Investigators] just trying to summarize the whole picture.”

Former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer echoed that assessment, adding that Mr Kohberger’s Fire TV Stick could have been linked to other apps and even social media platforms.

“There could be very important information particularly related to his searches and social media,” she added.

Investigators also searched the Washington State University office used by the suspect, a graduate student and teaching assistant in criminology, but did not seize any items.
