Celtic have reportedly softened their stance on a potential transfer from Odsonne Edouard, who has been linked with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leeds.
Edouard has been an outstanding Celtic player since joining in 2018. The forward has been their top scorer in each of his first two seasons at the club.
His form in Scotland has seen him regularly linked with a move south in the Premier League. A number of clubs are said to be willing to make offers to him.
For example, reports suggest Arsenal may try to sign him in 2021. The Gunners believe Edward has what it takes to be successful in England and could test Celtic’s resolve.
Alternately, there have been links with Aston Villa and Leeds, as well as wolves. However, the latest information on Edward suggests his future may not be in the Premier League after all.
According to Tuttosport, the product PSG Academy is now a target for Juventus. The Serie A champions have been looking for a new striker for several months, and have apparently turned their attention to Edouard.
The report suggested that a deal would be difficult as Celtic were unwilling to let go in January. As Neil Lennon’s side catch up with the Rangers in the title race, they wouldn’t want to lose their main threat.
However, an update from the reporter Ignazio Genuardi, Celtic reconsider its position on Edouard.
The forward is out of contract in 2022, so if they can’t convince him to extend his contract, they may have to cash in on him.
As it is, they are trying to tie it to better terms. However, if Edouard doesn’t sign up, it will leave them with a tough decision.
Genuardi claim Celtic have lowered their valuation of Edward to between € 25m and € 30m. This suggests that they accept the fact that they may have to sell it.
Whether his final destination is in Italy or England will only become clearer over time.
Celtic could pass for Liverpool striker
In another sign that Celtic may be preparing for Edouard’s departure, they were linked with a move for a Liverpool striker earlier this week.
According to 90 mins, Celtic are evaluating an offer for Taiwo Awoniyi, who is currently impressing on loan with Union Berlin.
Awoniyi is still awaiting his Liverpool debut due to difficulties in obtaining a work permit. However, Celtic may be able to sign him if they wish.
The report claimed Liverpool could accept an offer of around £ 5million for the Nigerian striker, making him an affordable target for several clubs.
Celtic are said to face competition from Rangers, as well as some English clubs.
