Chamoli (Uttarakhand):

A cloud explosion in the Binsar Hill area in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday left major destruction in the market even as several stores remained buried under the rubble.

The district magistrate ordered Chamoli officials to provide immediate assistance to those affected, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said.

“The state government will ensure appropriate treatment of the injured and a full arrangement of food and shelter for the homeless. We are assessing the loss and will provide authorized assistance to those affected as soon as possible,” Mr. Rawat in a tweet.

A man and his two children were rescued from the wreckage. Local officials and National Disaster Response Fund staff are on hand to carry out the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, around 8 p.m. today, the water level rose in the Tapovan area of ​​Rishiganga, causing the ongoing NTPC project to stop operations.

Chamoli District Magistrate Swati Bhadoria said villagers residing nearby have been warned to stay out of the water.
