CM Punk may have had Colt Cabana in mind prior to the AEW All Out media scrum and according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter he referred to the scrum a few weeks ago.
If you’ve watched the AEW livestream of the scrum, you may have gotten the impression that Wrestling Inc.’s Nick Hausman. Punk asked about Colt Cabana. That was not the case and, as can be seen in the video below, it was Punk who brought up Cabana unsolicited.
Meltzer wrote the following in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: “One person noted that two weeks ago, when Punk came back, he said the press conference after the PPV would be interesting.”
Bryan Alvarez said the following on Wrestling Observer Radio: “I know when you talk to people there… they believe that this was planned and that he intended to go in there and do exactly what he was doing that day.”
Meltzer added: “It was very clear it was planned because it was so rehearsed and all. I think the idea was that he wanted to use Nick Hausman to tell his talk about Colt Cabana, which was actually quite out of context .”
As for the backstage fight that took place after Punk’s comments to the media, the investigation is ongoing and different versions are being told about certain aspects of the fight, but key witnesses reportedly had similar stories about what happened.
Meltzer wrote, “The story of the Young Bucks breaking in or kicking in the door to get in wouldn’t be true by multiple people who would know, as they came in late and no door was broken.”
AEW and Jacksonville Jaguars Chief Legal Officer Megha Parekh was there, but it’s not clear if she was there with The Young Bucks or if she was already there for some other reason. The claim is that Matt and Nick Jackson entered without knocking and Punk’s side claimed they entered and started an argument that resulted in Punk hitting Matt, possibly multiple times. Meltzer noted in the Observer that those close to Punk said it was clear a fight was going to take place and that’s why Punk struck first.

Lucy Guy, the wife of Ace Steel (real name Chris Guy), was said to be in the room and she couldn’t move very well because she had a broken foot when the fight erupted in front of her. It is believed she was there to care for Punk’s dog, Larry. Also, a witness believes that things happened so quickly that The Bucks and Omega may not have realized she was there.
Steel, who supported his friend Punk, reportedly hit Nick in the eye with a chair and Nick was said to have been shaken and suffered a black eye and Punk was again bleeding from the cut from his match with Jon Moxley. Omega reportedly had his hair pulled and was bitten by Steel. It was explained that Steel thought Omega would cross him or choke him, so the bite happened because Steel bit Omega “while trying to separate Steel and Nick.”
Those who were part of the brawl or witnesses have been taken off the road. No one has been fired. Related: Things are reportedly leaning towards CM Punk not returning to AEW.
