Norm Macdonald, the Canadian born comedian who went on to become an influential actor in Saturday Night Live after arriving in 1993, passed away. He was 61 years old.
Entertainment news site Deadline first announced his death on Tuesday. Macdonald’s management company Brillstein Entertainment has confirmed the news.
Macdonald was born in Quebec on October 17, 1963 and spent his early years as a comedian touring across Canada. He eventually wrote for shows like Roseanne and Dennis Miller Spectacle in the early 90s, before hosting SNL ‘s iconic “Weekend Update” segment from 1994-97.
Macdonald died after a private battle with cancer, Brillstein said. He was 61 years old.
