Courtney Love shared a black and white photo of her late husband Kurt Cobain on her Instagram on Saturday morning.
The message was intended to commemorate the date of what would have been the 54th birthday of the leader of Nirvana.
The 56-year-old musician also included a quote from the backing notes of the group’s 1992 compilation album Incesticide in the post’s caption.
The quote read, “At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you hate gay people, people of different color, or women, please do us a favor. – Leave the shit alone! Don’t come to our concerts and don’t buy our records. “‘
Love also included its own message, written: “Happy birthday my beautiful boy”.
Accounts differ on when the former couple first met, with many sources noting that Cobain first spoke to his future wife after a 1989 broadcast.
Music journalist Everett True later said he personally introduced the couple on an L7 and Butthole Surfers show in 1991.
