COVID-19 tracker: Cases continue downward trend as Tokyo reports fewer than 600 new infections


The Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Sunday confirmed 565 new cases of COVID-19, up from 1,067 infections recorded a week ago, as well as 16 deaths.

The number of critically ill COVID-19 patients according to metropolitan government criteria stands at 171.

The seven-day average of new cases in Tokyo stood at 815.3 from 1,384 a week earlier.

In other heavily populated prefectures, Osaka reported 467 new cases and three deaths, Chiba recorded 213 cases and six deaths, Hyogo recorded 188 cases and two deaths, Kanagawa reported 394 cases, Aichi recorded 277 new cases and Saitama recorded 224 cases and one death.

Also on Sunday, Okinawa Prefecture recorded 107 new infections, up from 166 last Sunday, and Hokkaido reported 75 new cases.
