Crash on the Vrenelisgärtli: there is no trace of a 22-year-old climber

(wap) The man was with his 27-year-old companion on the ascent to Vrenelisgärtli on Thursday, police in the canton of Glarus reported on Friday. On the steep 800-meter-long traverse to the Chalttäli, the man fell into the depths, probably because a patch of snow had broken off.

A search operation involving Rega and Alpine Rescue Switzerland has so far been unsuccessful, according to cantonal police. This despite the fact that in addition to three helicopters, a drone and a thermal imaging device were used by the Swiss army. They also tried unsuccessfully to locate the missing person’s cell phone signal.

Due to poor visibility, adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain, the search has been halted for the time being.
