UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar revealed on Friday that the National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release CUET-UG results on September 15 or, if possible, “even a few days earlier”.

The President of the UGC has advised all universities to have their web portals ready to start the admission process for students based on the CUET-UG score.

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is the common gateway for undergraduate admissions to all central universities.

The debut edition of the Common University Entrance Test-UG took place on July 14 at test centers in more than 510 cities in India and abroad.

The UGC chief had announced in March that CUET scores, not Class 12 grades, would be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities, which can set their minimum eligibility criteria.

Kumar had clarified that under the new system students of state administrations will not be disadvantaged and that the exam will not push the coaching culture.

In total, 44 central universities, 12 state universities, 11 presumed universities and 19 private universities have applied to participate in the first edition of CUET-UG for admission into the 2022-23 academic session.

The debut edition of the CUET-UG ended on August 30 with many candidates experiencing technical difficulties.

The exam could not be administered at a center at Radha Govind University in Jharkhand due to the slow internet speed affecting 103 candidates. However, NTA officials said the exam will be conducted for these candidates at a later date.

“The fourth and final day of Phase Six on Tuesday was successfully conducted for 1,40,559 candidates in 444 exam centers in 239 cities, including four outside India (Muscat, Riyadh, Dubai and Sharjah) in both slots,” Sadhana Parashar, Senior Director (Exams), NTA, said.

According to the original plan, all phases of the CUET-UG were to be completed by August 20.

However, the exam was further postponed and split into six stages to accommodate students whose exam was rescheduled due to various issues that marred the test.

From technical difficulties to last minute changes in the exam center and uninformed changes in exam dates to allow cards with past dates, the students faced various problems.

NEET-UG is the largest admission test in India with an average of 18 lakh registrations.
