CWG 2022: Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant Lead Wishes For Indian Contingent Ahead Of Commonwealth Games


As the 215 athletes will represent India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in 141 events across 19 sports disciplines, many hopes will rely on these players to win the gold medal.

The CWG events will all kick off on July 29, with this year’s women’s T20I cricket making its debut. The eight best teams compete for the gold medal.

Prominent names besides PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh include Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar Dahiya. Defending CWG champions Manika Batra and Vinesh Phogat, as well as 2018 Asian Games gold medalists Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Hima Das and Amit Panghal.

With expectations running high, many people took to Twitter to wish the Indian contingent. Former India skipper Virat Kohli wrote: “My best wishes to the Indian women’s cricket team and all our athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games”.

Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant also wrote on Twitter: “Wishing @BCCIWomen and all our athletes all the best for the CWG, to each and every one of you. Jai Hind”.

Batter Shreyas Iyer, who was in good form in the ODI series against the West Indies, also took to Twitter. He wrote: “Good luck and best wishes to our Indian athletes at the Commonwealth Games. We are all rooting for you”.

Speaking of the CWG, athletes and players from a total of 72 countries will compete in the event that concludes on August 8. In 2022, a total of 280 events across 20 sports will take place in Birmingham.
