Jeremy Lalrinnunga won gold for India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Sunday, in the men’s 67kg weightlifting final, with a total lift of 300kg. Jeremy took the gold medal with a record 140 kg lift in the snatch category and 160 kg in the Clean and Jerk category, giving him a combined 300 kg lift, a record at the Commonwealth Games.
Jeremy won the nation its second gold medal in Birmingham 2022, with Mirabai Chanu winning the first on Saturday.
Lalrinnunga battled injury on his way to his historic gold medal as he showed tremendous grit and determination to go for his second and third attempt in a clean and jerk round, having previously injured himself.

The 19-year-old is from Aizawl, Mizoram, and previously represented India at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
Jeremy won gold in the 62 kg boys category with a lift capacity of 274 kg (124 kg in snatch, while 150 kg in clean and jerk round).
It was India’s first gold medal in the Youth Olympics. Jeremy also previously won the silver medal in the Asian Weightlifting Championship.
The prodigious weightlifter finished 21st at the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships, in the men’s 67kg event.
Lalrinnunga previously won gold in men’s 67kg earlier at the 2021 Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent.
