ANKARA: Turkey’s daily death toll from coronavirus hit a record 141 on Friday, according to data from the Ministry of Health, as the country prepared to take nationwide action in the face of an increase in the number of cases in recent weeks.
Data showed that 5,103 new COVID-19 patients have been registered in the country, while the total number of deaths has risen to 12,084. As of July, Ankara has only reported patients symptomatic of COVID-19 , a movement according to critics hides the true extent of the epidemic.
President Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday announced tighter restrictions, including the introduction of weekend curfews and limitations on the opening hours of restaurants, cafes and shopping malls.
