Kevin de Bruyne believes Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden could become one of the best players in world football if he continues to develop.
Foden had a great night for England on Wednesday scoring two goals and helping another The Three Lions win over Iceland at Wembley.
It was the last show of talent the 20-year-old possesses who has also shown signs of his promise since making his City debut in November 2017.
Many have suggested a bright future for him, including Pep guardiola. In fact, the former Barcelona boss has shown his confidence by choosing not to have David Silva replaced during the summer in order to give Foden more opportunities.
He has also been true to his word, with Foden seeing plenty of playing time at club level early in this season. He started seven games and made three other replacement games.
And by Bruyne is another who was impressed with what he saw of Foden, saying the progress he is making puts him on track to reach the top of the game.
“He’s doing great, Phil,” De Bruyne told ESPN (via the Daily Mail). “He’s been with us for three, four years. He’s still a young man, but he plays regularly.
“He’s playing really well, he’s evolving, so he has to keep doing it. In a few years, if he goes in the right direction, he will become one of the best players in the world if he wants to.
Guardiola responds to other Messi rumors
Suggestions from the city making another signing attempt Lionel messi this summer has resurfaced since Guardiola signed an agreement to stay at the Etihad until the end of 2023.
City were linked with the Argentinian over the summer when they were embroiled in a dispute with Barcelona. However, he ended up staying at Camp Nou. His contract expires at the end of the year, which means he could still move on.
The citizens are the favorites to land him in the event of a start, and Guardiola had his say in the odds of that happening.
