Democrat Wins Nevada Secretary of State Race Over Cabal Obsessed Republican

Democrat Cisco Aguilar is expected to win the Nevada Secretary of State race by defeating Republican Jim Marchant, who falsely claimed not only that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump, but that a “deep state cabal” has controlled all elections in the state for years.

Aguilar, the state’s former athletic commissioner, told Politico he wanted to run for the job to reform Nevada’s corporate filing system, but the importance of election administration became apparent after Marchant won the Republican nomination.

“When the [GOP] first results were announced, it just hit me like a pile of bricks,” he said.

Marchant, the head of a group of “America First” candidates for secretaries of state who are spreading the lie that the 2020 election has been stolen, is a leader in the effort to cast doubt on Republicans’ electoral losses. He has also cultivated ties with an influencer in the QAnon conspiracy theory movement, which supports the mass arrest or execution of public figures they accuse of being satanic pedophiles.

seller stood with the Nevada GOP’s list of Trump “voters” seeking to topple the state’s legitimate 2020 presidential election, and he later said he would not have certified the election that Joe Biden won by 33,000 votes. He also sued to nullify the results of his own congressional race that year, which he lost by more than 16,000 votes. Like Trump, Marchant claimed he was “a victim of voter fraud”. And the state party is behind him: the Nevada GOP censored the current limited-term Secretary of State, Barbara Cegavske (R), in part for “failing to investigate electoral fraud”.

Aguilar, a former staffer of the late Senate leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), had warned that voting for Marchant would damage voters’ confidence in the electoral process.

“Right now we have the option of either electing someone who will keep the voters’ confidence or we can have someone who will tear down the system because they don’t like it and it didn’t benefit them,” he told Nevada last month. Current. “All Nevada residents will suffer because of him.”

Marchant has said he wanted to run for Secretary of State “because we control the electoral system.” He ran for the official job in the state’s highest election on the basis of a list of damaging lies about American democracy.

“Your vote has not counted for decades”, Marchant told listeners during a debate in February, a few months before he won the GOP primary for the Secretary of State race. “You didn’t choose anyone. The people in office have been selected. You didn’t have a choice.” He told The Guardian in January that it was “quite possible” that he would point out another false slate of voters in 2024.

Alarming, Marchant said he would consider re-registering every Nevadan to vote—a common 20th-century tactic for the— suppression of black voters. He has also endorsed new voter ID requirements and called for “NO Mail-in Ballots” and a ban on dropboxes. He has said he wants to “get rid of the early voting” even though he has promoted the practice to his supporters and voted early himself. Nevada Current reported.

Marchant had also promised to decertify the Dominion voting machines, the demonized election machines that the… majority of Nevada counties.

Positioning himself as a business-friendly Democrat during his campaign, Aguilar told The Nevada Independent that the state should maintain its status as the “Delaware of the West.” But he also stressed the importance of independent election administration throughout the race, unlike Marchant, who stated that Trump would return to the White House in 2024 if he and others on the right win their Secretary of State races this year.

The state’s top election official, Aguilar told Nevada Current, should be “someone who is neutral and impartial about what the actual outcome is and who listens to the voters in Nevada, rather than saying ‘this is the outcome’.” I want and I’m going to influence it in that direction,’ which my opponent will absolutely do, and has officially stated that he will.”

Despite his loss to Aguilar, Marchant has already made an impact. After a pitch from Marchant, Nevada’s Nye County attempted to hand-count the 2022 ballots when they arrived at election officials. Cegavske and the Supreme Court of the State intervened to stop the exercise. The hand count happened, but it didn’t go well: The The Bharat Express News reported: last month it took 60 volunteers a full day to count just 900 ballots, and the effort was stalled by repeated mismatches in the ballots of several volunteers.

Marchant is a founding member of the America First Secretary of State Coalition — members include the GOP secretary of state nominees in Michigan, Arizona and New Mexico, and Pennsylvania governor nominee Doug Mastriano — also pointing to his involvement with QAnon conspiracy theorists. He started the group with a QAnon influencer going by “Juan O. Savin” who has outlined a plan to turn Washington, DC, into a concertina wire-covered war zone “like they did in Fallujah”, The Daily Beast reported.

Savin suggested screening the town’s residents, and then he said, ‘Anyone who’s still in town after three days, you’re an enemy combatant. We’ll come get you. You can come out or we can blow you out, we can drag you out, you’ll get out of there somehow.”

During a speech last October praising Savin by name, Marchant said he “couldn’t emphasize enough” how important he thought this year’s Secretary of State elections were.

“We control the electoral system, just like George Soros and Harry Reid knew,” he said. “So we’re going to oppose what they did. And in 2022 we are going to take back our country.”
