The trailer begins as Paul de Chalamet sees Zendaya’s Chani in his dreams. She is a beauty with bright blue eyes who lives on Arrakis.

He doesn’t know what to do with dreams and asks Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho what he should think about it.

Duncan tells the young man that dreams don’t matter, it’s what happens during the waking hours that matters.

The studio also released a brief preview of the trailer on Wednesday, featuring brief shots of several characters, including Duke Leto, Paul de Chalamet’s father, delivering a powerful message to his son.

“My son, a great man does not seek to lead, he is called to it,” Duke Leto said to his son Paul.

The film is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s beloved 1965 novel of the same name, which is considered the best-selling science fiction novel in the world.

The story takes place in the distant future amid several civilizations spread across the galaxy, centered around one family in particular, the Atreides family.

The family, led by Duke Leto Atreides, become the new stewards of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis.

While the desert planet is sparsely populated and filled with deadly creatures (as teased in the preview above), it is also very important.

Arrakis is the only source of “mixing”, which prolongs life and greatly improves mental capacities, and is a necessity for space travel and navigation.

There had been a previous adaptation of the book in 1970 by filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, although it never took off.

The filmmaker’s attempt to bring this ambitious novel to life was chronicled in the 2013 documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune.

Director David Lynch adapted the book into the poorly received 1984 film Dune, starring Kyle MacLachlan, Patrick Stewart, Sting, and Jurgen Prochnow.

The book was also adapted into a 2000 Sci-Fi Channel miniseries titled Frank Herbert’s Dune, and its sequel, 2003 Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, which combined the author’s novels, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) is directing this adaptation of Dune, which will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22.
