A 95-year-old Queensland farmer has survived being stuck in mud for two days after falling when his tractor got stuck.
The older man had worked near a dam on his Carters Ridge property, south of Gympie in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Emergency services were called on Tuesday after concerned neighbors trapped the farmer in the mud next to the tractor.
“The tractor was pretty much stuck next to a dam,” said Shaun Bright, chief of ambulance operations.
“Looks like the gentleman tried to get off the tractor and had some sort of medical episode that kept him busy for several days.”
The deeply distressed farmer drifted in and out of consciousness before he was found and treated for hypothermia and dehydration.
He is in serious but stable condition at Sunshine Coast Hospital.
Mr Bright said it was incredible that the farmer survived the ordeal.
“It is absolutely incredible to see what condition he was in – he is clearly a very stoic gentleman.
“He works on site alone, as far as we know, and usually takes care of the property unassisted, so it was pretty good to see him doing pretty well when we got there.”
