The Assembly / Vidhan Sabha constituency of Chakulia is located in the Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. It falls under the constituency of Raiganj. It came into being as a constituency of the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal in 2011 after the implementation of the recommendations of the Boundary Commission of India.
The constituency includes the gram Bazargaon-I and Bazargaon-II panchayats of the Karandighi community development block; and Goalpokhar-II community development block.

Results of past elections and winners
In the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election in 2016, Ali Imran Ramz of the All India Forward Bloc retained the Chakulia seat, which he also won in the 2011 Assembly polls.
Ramz was among the leaders who claimed to have been approached by the I-PAC led by Prashant Kishor, who manages the Trinamool congressional campaign ahead of the national elections,
