In the latest podcast “83 Weeks” (Q&A Edition), Eric Bischoff discussed the backstage issues in AEW, especially the media scrum that led to the fight backstage after AEW All Out.
“The worst thing that happened in that media frenzy was the level where Phil Brooks, whatever his name is, Phil went to humiliate Tony Khan. He took him out of his guts. First he cut his balls off, made him look like a complete tool, and when that wasn’t enough, and he had more time to just keep going, i think he humiliated Tony Khan.
“Now I’ve said some things about Tony. Other people have said things about Tony that aren’t flattering but just to sit next to a man you pay millions of dollars to and have him destroy your business and make you look like a complete piece of equipment, which he did. It’s not the battle. I don’t care about the fight. All I could have cared about was who got the best shot. I think the way Phil humiliated Tony was unforgivable.”
Nothing like this has ever happened to me. Now, guys would say it was leaked to the media because that’s what a lot of guys did back then. They were leaking things to the media to try and carry out their agenda or to get across a point they couldn’t make otherwise. That sh*t happened and it bothered me, but no one ever sat next to me in a media scrum that completely destroyed my business and made me look like a complete asshole. That never happened.”
On whether AEW side with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega or CM Punk:
“Let’s do an exercise here. Let’s say The Young Bucks leaked internal information about what was going on behind the scenes in AEW, they leaked that information to Dave Meltzer, which I think is why Punk lost his shit, Right? I don’t blame Punk for being mad about that. That’s chicken sh*t, Juvenile High School bullsh*t, if that actually happened I wouldn’t blame him for being hot. What I blame him is the way he handled it and humiliating Tony Khan as a way to vent his spleen. That’s my problem with Punk.”

“Even if that actually happened, and The Young Bucks leaked information to Dave Meltzer and Dave Meltzer who published information as a way to suppress Punk, I fully believe that could have happened. It still doesn’t give Punk the right to do what he did, to take millions of dollars every year from AEW and then completely destroy the company. For that reason, I would get rid of Punk no matter what happened that caused that reaction. Punk’s reaction was far more blatant to me than the alleged circumstances that caused it. So Punk should go under all circumstances. I would never, ever allow a man to bury me and my company taking millions of dollars from me, I would never again let him be on television with a live microphone or in an interview with a live microphone. I wouldn’t want him around.”
“I just can’t imagine a scenario where you’d keep that guy around. I can’t imagine any, and if they do, I think it’s just a guess because they’ve been involved in lawsuits, that they’re keeping them around until they can determine, that they mean AEW, that from a legal point of view, perspective be bulletproof, otherwise you got this disgruntled piece of shit called CM Punk, who oh, coincidentally, supposedly ripped a triceps early in his match. Is there any indication of that? Did anyone see anything in that match that makes them think, ‘Yeah, that’s true.’ Now maybe there is. I haven’t seen the match. I’m not saying it’s bullsh*t. What I’m saying is bullshit, when I saw him at that press conference he had no problem feeding his face with Twinkies. He sold nothing. He was in no pain. He stuffed his face like he hadn’t eaten in a goddamn month. I mean, he looks like a wino. Looks like someone picked him up on a street corner somewhere in Chicago and sobered him up 20 minutes in front of the press room. He looks like sh*t, always has. But have you seen him sell his triceps while eating? He was just fucking two fisting Twinkies while he was up there. You couldn’t see well? So I think it’s bullsh*t. I think he got hurt, I think he tore his triceps in that backstage altercation, whatever that was. That’s gonna be a mess. So if they keep him around, it’s because they’re trying to navigate with that. That’s my guess.”
Now you have AEW with two executive vice presidents, because that’s The Young Bucks, EVPs, they’re officers of the company involved in a physical confrontation with a disgruntled piece of shit, who has now ripped a truckload of triceps. I admit he may have got the ripped triceps that filled his face with fu**ing Twinkies in the scrum. When he got hurt, he got hurt by feeding his face because he worked hard on that.”
“Now you have a potential legal problem, and a big one by the way, because if Punk can maintain that he was injured in that ring, and then there was a physical confrontation, and now he needs surgery, and he may not be able to wrestle anymore, and besides, he makes millions of dollars a year and when he can’t wrestle anymore, a lawyer on the other end will say, ‘Yeah, but he still had at least 10 solid years to go in his career, because look at Chris Jericho, that older is over 50 Look at this guy who is over 50 Look at this guy is over He had a good 7, 8, 9, 10 more years and he makes a few million, I know what the numbers are, I just refuse to say it It’s a bunch of millions So you know that’s a lawsuit about $50 million That’s going to be a mess So if they keep him around it’s because they’re trying to navigate that That is my guess.’
