Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why he dropped several players for the Europa League clash with Slavia Prague.
Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli all started off the bench.
Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe all returned to the squad, along with Granit Xhaka, Willian, Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares.
“We had to choose the right team to try to start the game in the best possible way and also have the options to change the game.
“In Europe, we have the possibility of building five submarines and that’s a big problem. We want to use our whole team in the best possible way, ”Arteta told BT Sport.
The Gunners missed a host of good scoring opportunities, before Nicolas Pepe left the bench to score what looked like a late winner.
However, Slavia equalized in the dying minutes thanks to Tomas Holes.
