Kolkata: “There will be a ‘khela’ in West Bengal in December,” said state BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, claiming that more than 30 MLAs from the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) are in contact with her party.
To talk with First post, Agnimitra Paul said: “There are about 30 TMC MLAs in contact with our party member Mithun Chakraborty. Senior BJP leaders, especially LoP Suvendu Adhikari, will appeal.
She said that the TMC government in West Bengal will continue not long after December. “Their existence is at stake,” added Paul, BJP’s Asansol MLA.
For the inexperienced, BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty had claimed in July this year that 38 TMC MLAs were in contact with his party in West Bengal.
“Do you want to hear the latest news? At present, 38 TMC MLAs have very good relations with us, of which 21 have direct (contact with us),” Chakraborty said at a press conference in Kolkata.
Why do 30 TMC MLAs want to switch to BJP?
According to Agnimitra Paul, there have been financial irregularities in the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal.
She went on to say that half of Mamata Banejree’s leaders are accused of fraud and the other half are in jail for alleged corruption.
The West Bengal BJP MLA further claimed that the ruling government of West Bengal has no money to pay its employees.
‘TMC steals money from the government project’
Paul further claimed that TMC stole money from the central government project. She further said that the BJP wants the CBI to question Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with her ministers as she is the head of state.
“She has to take responsibility and answer how the common people stole money this way. She has to answer for all the corruption,” Paul added.
BJP and TMC are at odds with each other
West Bengal’s ruling TMC and BJP are at odds, most recently over President Droupadi Murmu.
Agnimitra Paul tweeted a photo on Monday of her wearing President Murmu’s effigy on her forehead. This was apparently a reference to the ongoing high-octane political drama over West Bengal minister Akhil Giri’s comments about the president, which drew strong criticism from the BJP.
On Monday, BJP MLAs in West Bengal staged a strike from the assembly demanding Giri’s immediate resignation from Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet. They even demanded his disqualification from the House for his comments about the president.
What did TMC’s Akhil Giri say to President Murmu?
In a video that recently went viral, the Minister of State for Correctional Homes, Akhil Giri, commented on the appearance of President Droupadi Murmu.
The video sparked outrage in the BJP. The head of the party’s information and technology cell, Amit Malviya, had tweeted the clip, calling Mamata Banerjee “anti-tribal”.
Later, Mamata Banerjee apologized for Giri’s comments. She said, “Akhil Giri has made a mistake. I condemn his statements and apologize on behalf of my party. My party has already apologized for it. I have great respect for the president. We have warned our MLA and if it happens in future, then the party will take action.”
