Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is backed to secure an important signing this month to help Manchester United in their bid to become Premier League champions.
United will travel to Anfield on Sunday three points clear at the top. A victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side will extend their advantage to six points. In addition, it will also further claim United could win first Premier League title since 2013.
The Red Devils have already strengthened their wide attacking zones this month with the signature of Amad Diallo.
However, they would still be looking to tighten up at the back and could still target a new defender.
Eric Bailly has done well in recent matches alongside Harry Maguire. However, United are still looking for a new center-half.
Indeed, reports have put them in touch with Pau Torres from Villarreal this month.
However, transfer expert David Webb is backing United to sign another long-term deal at Dayot Upamecano.
Webb has been following Upamecano for years and believes he has become a “top” player. He also suggested he could prove the difference in the race to win the Premier League title
Talk to Sky Sports, Webb is adamant that Upamecano would improve United’s defense.
“It’s interesting because the two teams are looking to compete on all fronts, especially with Manchester United’s recent push into the league and Liverpool’s defensive problems at the moment.”
“One particular player (I would recommend) that comes to mind is Dayot Upamecano; the one I have known for quite a long time. He entered the scene when he was signed from Valencia to Red Bull Salzburg.
The 22-year-old’s contract with RB Leipzig will expire in 2023. In the summer of 2021, a clause in the deal would allow suitors to sign it for a fee of 45 million euros.
however, SportBild suggest that a sale this month of around € 60m (£ 53.4m) could still materialize.
It should be noted, however, that trust transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims Leipzig will not sell Upamecano in January. He goes on to say that the Bundesliga team are resigned to their exit this summer.

Bruno Fernandes launched the United challenge
The big signing last January, of course, was Bruno Fernandes; the Portuguese star having had a major impact in his year at Old Trafford.
Despite his status as United’s best player, Dwight Yorke challenged the midfielder to lead United to the silverware.
Yorke said Sky Sports: “He came and really lifted the team in a really massive way. Ole deserves a lot of credit for recognizing such a player.
“What he has brought to the team is second to none. He was consistent and a featured artist week after week, and mobilized the team and gave them an energy that was lacking earlier in the campaign.
“He’s without a doubt one of the best players out there, if not the best right now, but there is no point in being the best player if you don’t win things at Manchester United.
“You will always be judged by the fact that you have won things.
“They played three semi-finals last season and they got to another semi-final this year and didn’t cross the finish line. So time is running out in terms of that and in terms of results.
“It’s not very often that you get to those kinds of positions and now he has to convert them into trophies – those will be the next steps.
“As for where he (Solskjaer) has the squad right now, all Manchester United fans will be singing with great joy. It’s not something we’ve been able to do lately so it’s a really good time for the football club and fans around the world.
