Former EastEnders star Jake Wood reveals his joy at finally being able to grow a beard after leaving the soap

He bade farewell to Albert Square last week after 15 years on the soap opera.

And former EastEnders star Jake Wood shared his joy at finally being able to grow a beard during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

The actor, 48, told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that he could never have had more than thatch because he had to maintain the continuity of his character Max Branning in the soap opera.

Jake, who sported an entirely different bushy beard than what viewers will be used to seeing, joked that his ‘wife hates’ his facial hair.

“The woman hates it, but what can you do?” I want to go to the full ZZ Top, ” he admitted, as he asked Piers to grow a beard before adding: “ This is the first time in 15 years that I haven’t don’t have to keep my thatch the same. ”

Jake also opened up about leaving the soap opera, admitting he was ‘sad’ watching his last episode with his wife.

He explained: “ It was sad. It was a little weird for me because I finished dropping off in mid December so I have been really gone for three months my wife and I watched it we invited the kids but they weren’t not really interested.

“15 years is a long time on any show, it was an emotional moment. But it had been three months so it had been a while since I was on set, but the messages I received were great.

Max turned his back on Albert Square after realizing there was nothing left for him there and in a heartbreaking moment he left his granddaughter Abi after realizing she would do better to be raised by Rainie and Stuart.

Following her release after 15 years on the soap opera, Jacqueline Jossa paid a moving tribute to her onscreen father Jake with a plethora of throwback snaps spouting: ‘You are a legend. ”

The Walford bad boy decided to say goodbye after his one-time love Linda Carter rejected him again and declared that she didn’t love him, although he got Queen Vic back for her.

And in another bang, his brother Jack gave him some tough truths at home, with Max then deciding to go missing with his beloved granddaughter Abi.

But after his car didn’t start, he then drove to the metro station with the little one in the trailer.

The duo then stumbled upon their former sweetheart Stacy Slater, with Max saying enigmatic goodbye to her.

However, he then noticed little Abi looking at his Great Aunt Rainie’s window and at that point he chose to leave the little one at her door, deciding that Abi would have a better life with Rainie and her husband Stuart.

After leaving Abi at Rainie’s door, a tearful Max then grabbed his bags and headed for the subway station as EastEnders’ heart-rending Julia theme played in the background.

After the moving scenes, actress Jossa, who played Lauren Branning, shared a moving message in honor of actor Jake.
