Gallagher and Alliant agree to resolve latest dispute over alleged poaching

Brokers Arthur J. Gallagher and Alliant Insurance Services have jointly filed a petition to tell a judge they have agreed to a settlement to end a brief but controversial dispute over allegations of employee poaching.

According to a status report filed with the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois, Gallagher and Alliant “reached an agreement in principle” on Sept. 8 to settle a late July lawsuit Gallagher filed against Alliant, alleging that Alliant ” was involved in a corporate raid on Gallagher’s Chicago office.”

The charges were filed after eight women gave Gallagher their abrupt resignations for several days in July, effective immediately, in a move Gallagher said was orchestrated by Alliant to steal customers. Alliant fired back at his rival broker, accusing Gallagher of “rampant sexism, discrimination and unfair treatment of women”. Alliant’s lawsuit included statements from his new female associates, outlining Gallagher’s alleged sexism, discrimination and lack of housing.

Gallagher denied the allegations, saying in a subsequent filing that Alliant deviated from its alleged “plan to steal employees and customers,” as it has done against Gallagher and other brokers in the past, Gallagher said. However, Gallagher’s request for a restraining order against Alliant was denied.
