Gasly: ​​AlphaTauri can fight McLaren and Ferrari ‘on any track’ in F1


Gasly and AlphaTauri played in qualifying for the opening of the F1 season, with the Frenchman starting fifth behind Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and ahead of McLaren drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris.

Gasly’s rookie teammate Yuki Tsunoda also showed flashes of speed, but missed a spot in Q3.

AlphaTauri’s qualifying pace has given Gasly confidence that the Faenza-based side will be in the mix as the midfielder for the entire 2021 season.

“When I got in touch with the McLaren, the race was pretty much over,” Gasly continued.

“I broke the front wing, I damaged the ground and then that was about it. We had other problems towards the end of the race which meant that we had to abandon the car.

“Obviously I’m very disappointed because there was a good fight with the Ferrari and the McLaren. We missed some good points.”
