MLW owner Court Bauer was recently interviewed on The Insiders podcast for AdFreeShows.com. Bauer shared stories from his time as a writer for WWE.
Bauer talked about Bret Hart’s return to WWE and what it was originally supposed to be like at WrestleMania 22:
Well, the original version had to kind of take off in WWE in 2006, or seven. Bret was back in the WWE orbit after coming to terms with Vince and making the DVD and at one point it was becomes Bret versus Vince at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago, and then Bret was a little uncomfortable doing that. In the end, a few years later, they did it very differently.”
“But the original idea at the time was the Harts and the Hart Foundation against the WWE, Vince, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Shane and Shawn’s students. The idea would be that you know you have Paul London. You had Brian Kendrick, and then they went to sign Bryan Danielson. So you had all these interesting ways against the Hart Foundation, which would have been Bret, Neidhart and a new generation, Davey Boy Smith Jr., Nattie, Teddy and so on.”

“So we started the process and I had Harry Smith, Davey Boy Smith Jr. drawing, Nattie and TJ, Tyson Kid and Teddy. I remember Vince looking at me and saying. “You know, self-masturbating gimmick.” It was like a warning, like this is on you if this goes south. I’m like okay.”
“The truth is that Teddy lasted longer than I did in WWE. I left the summer of 2007 and he stayed a little longer. So I don’t know how that ended, but obviously he didn’t get on the air and the other guys did. Nattie is still doing great things there, Tyson is contributing behind the scenes and Harry has been on duty there ever since so it was interesting what could have happened with that I think Jericho is also in the Hart story at some point processed, I guess. I don’t remember the details by heart.”
