‘He is cultural leader’: Ricky Ponting wants Rishabh Pant to be with Delhi Capitals team during IPL 2023


India’s wicketkeeper’s batsman Rishabh Pant is currently being treated for injuries sustained in a devastating car accident in the early hours of December 30. Reports suggest that the Indian cricketer underwent surgery on his medial collateral ligament and a minor repair to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Pant is expected to be out for a few months and was previously banned from participating in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Despite this setback, the Delhi Capitals coach is determined to keep Pant close to the team during the IPL 2023, and he is set to eager for him to recover quickly.

Speaking on the ICC Review show, the former Australian captain stated that it is very difficult to replace players like Pant and expressed his wish for the wicketkeeper to remain with the team for the entire tournament.

“You can’t replace guys like Pant, it’s that simple. Players of his caliber don’t come along very often. We are already looking for a suitable replacement wicketkeeper-batsman,” said Ponting.

He claimed that even if Pant is not physically fit to play, he would still like to have him on the team. “If he can’t take the field, we’d still like to have him around. He’s a true leader of the pack, and his attitude, contagious smile and hearty laugh are what we all love,” said Ponting.

The Australian added: “If he’s really able to travel and be with the team then I want him to be in the dugout next to me every day of the week. I’ll make sure, half way through March when we get together.” in Delhi and our camps start and stuff, if he can be there then I want him around all the time.

Earlier, the newly elected Cricket Director of Delhi Capitals Sourav Ganguly confirmed that Rishabh Pant will be out of the IPL 2023. a significant impact on his selection for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will take place in India in October-November.

Recently, Pant underwent knee surgery after suffering serious injuries in an accident on the NH-58 highway, where he lost control of his vehicle and hit the dividing line. He suffered cuts to his forehead, a badly bruised back and injuries to his knee and ankle.
