India-based HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL), part-owned by steel magnate LN Mittal, plans to start up its naphtha cracker at the Bathinda refinery in the northern state of Punjab, India. by the end of the March 2022 quarter, sources told Reuters on Tuesday.

“We are doing our best to get the cracker online by March 2022,” an industry source familiar with the matter said.

State-owned refiner Hindustan Petroleum Corp and Mittal Energy Investments Pvt Ltd each have a 49% stake in the project.

Separately, another source said the cracker could start in April. HMEL did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
