Hot Take: Movie Based On Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Defamation Trial With Mark Hapka, Megan Davis


The controversial libel case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is the subject of a new movie, Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, which debuts exclusively on the free Tubi streaming service.

The film stars Mark Hapka (Parallels’, Days of Our Lives) as Depp and Megan Davis (Alone in the Dark) as Heard. It premieres Friday, September 30 on TBEN’s Tubi. Melissa Marty will join Hapka and Davis as Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez and Mary Carrig will play Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft, Variety reports.

Hot Take follows the tumultuous relationship — in and out of court — between Depp and Heard and dramatizes the two-month defamation trial that concluded on June 1, in which the jury ruled that Heard had defamed Depp by alluding to allegations of domestic violence. against him in a December 2018 op-ed.

The jury also held Depp liable for a defamatory statement by his attorney about Heard.

Hot Take comes from TBEN Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment. The film is written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sara Lohman. The film was accelerated into production by Tubi and MarVista “to capture a timely look at a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, and paint a unique picture of what millions of people saw playing in the headlines over the summer.” Adam Lewinson, Tubia’s chief content officer, said in a statement.
