“I like to see my culture first. In our culture, that won’t happen (the captain’s division theory). You can’t have two CEOs in a company. If Virat Kohli is going to play T20 and he’s good enough, let him be there, ”Kapil Dev said during a video conference call at HTLS 2020.

Putting his weight firmly behind Virat Kohli, Indian captain Kapil Dev, 1983 World Cup winner, said Kohli should continue as captain of the Indian team in all three formats of the game, as the captain theory divided has very little chance of success in Indian cricket. Kapil’s comments came during his conversation with writer and sports reporter Ayaz Memon on day two of the 18th The Bharat Express News Leadership Summit.
“I like to see my culture first. In our culture, that won’t happen (the captain’s division theory). You can’t have two CEOs in a company. If Virat Kohli is going to play T20 and he’s good enough, let him be there, ”Kapil said during a video conference call at HTLS 2020.

The legendary all-rounder has argued that it will become difficult for other team members to adjust to different captains in different formats of the game.
“Although I like to see other people come, but it’s very, very difficult for the other players. 80% of your team will be the same (in different formats). They won’t like different captains having different theories. England, Australia and South Africa are different. They have a different mentality and culture. But in our culture, that (the captain’s division) is going to create differences between players.

“The players may not know who to contact because here we admire the captain. So I would say that for the good of the team, let them continue like this, ”added Kapil.
Kapil said it says a lot about the talent available in Indian cricket that there are at least two to three cricketers who can now lead the team in the absence of Virat Kohli.
“If a player like Virat Kohli can’t play T20 or ODI then I can think about it (have another captain) but if he wants to play all formats then I would say he continues but I’m happy that we have two or three players who can do a good job if Virat isn’t available, ”Kapil said.
