Trinamool congressional lawmaker Madan Mitra, known for his social media presence, has put together a video clip that attempts to capture the flavor of two highly anticipated events for West Bengal – Durga Puja and the Bhabanipur poll that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting to be elected to the Assembly.
The Kamarhati MP, known for causing a stir on social media with his offbeat style and humor, is seen in the video singing an act, “India Wanna’ve Her Betiya”. The song begins with “Jago tumi jago”, one of the songs from the Mahisasuramardini radio program which is an inseparable part of Durga Puja. Madan Mitra’s number then switched to rap, as the lawmaker, first seen in the video in traditional Bengali attire, switched to hip-hop style.
The number is sprinkled with her signature phrase “Lovely” and the must-have new line “I don’t know my name? MM MM”.
Equally important is the political message. “India wanna’ve her betiya” is undoubtedly a play on “Bangla nijer meyeke chai”, Trinamool’s slogan for the Assembly elections held earlier this year. Through the slogan, the party projected Ms. Banerjee as the Bengal girl confronting the “outside” force of the BJP.
